Fr. Robert Odong who is the Education Secretary for the Archdiocese of Gulu together with Christians of the Archdiocese of Gulu and Stakeholders plans to hold an Education Week for the first time in the history of the Archdiocese with some reflection on the continuous decline in the quality of education, poor performance, human resources, and how we can improve the education of the Children in Acoli Sub- Region with the theme for the event: “Re-awakening and Re-positioning the Church and other Stakeholders to Transform Education in Acoli Sub-Region.” The occasion will begin on Monday, November 13th, 2023 with the launch of the Education Week and the Celebration of the Holy Mass by His Grace Dr. John Baptist Odama the Archbishop of Gulu which is open to all categories of people, on Tuesday, November 14th, the day will be for all the Learners in Nursery and Primary Schools, on Wednesday, November 15th, the program for Education Week will have Learners of Secondary Schools, Tertiary Institutions and Universities, while on Thursday, November 16th, we shall have Teachers and Parents combined, and on Friday, November 17th, we will have all the Religious, Cultural, Political and Civil Servants especially DEOs and Inspector of Schools and on Saturday, November 18th, 2023 as the Closing Day Education Week November 2023 for all categories as the program will be followed by a Fundraising Dinner to support the initiative at Acoli In where we except the Strategic Plan to be launched.

As the Concept Paper states the objectives of Education Week as the Archdiocese of Gulu takes the lead in Acoli Sub-Region with a wide engagement in education and initiation of the strategic interventions and partnerships to strengthen the region’s educational infrastructure for integral growth and development the specific objectives are phenomenal and we follow with passion and commitment we will have better education in Acoli Sub-Region.

Education Week has six objectives and they are all good: -

1. To raise awareness and strengthen stakeholder engagement and support in improving the quality and accountability for education in the Acoli Sub-region to reduce the massive influx of learners seeking quality education services from outside the subregion.

2. Children and youth participate, have a voice, and are protected as critical stakeholders in their education.

3. To develop and Launch a ten-year Education Strategic Plan for the Archdiocese of Gulu.

4. To improve the learning environment of learners through the rehabilitation of 24 educational facilities [3 classrooms per district] in the Acoli Sub-region.

5. To strengthen the capacity of the Diocesan Education Co-ordination Office to provide leadership, coordinate, and network with other Foundation Bodies, the GoU [Central and Local Governments], donor agencies, and other stakeholders.

6. To build a coalition of Christians supporting the Church-founded schools from their areas of origin.

The program will also have some Motivational Speakers, an Award for Best Teachers, Teacher Exhibitions, an Award for excelling Educational Institutions, Learner Exhibitions, and Entertainment as well so it will be a nice event as "Gulu Archdiocese Holds an Eminent Celebration of Education Week November 2023" in Gulu City for the first time with serious reflection on the performance of the learners from Acoli Sub-Region. If we have one mind, heart, and proclamation as the Church, then we can have better education.

On the Closing Day, I would advise the Education Department to make a copy of the planned intervention, Targets, and Strategic Plan on Education for Gulu Catholic Archdiocese to all the 32 Catholic Parishes, Donors, Learners, Parents, Communities, Head Teachers, Teachers, School Management Committee, PTA, Board of Directors, Board of Governors, Government of Uganda, and District Local Government so that we get to know that we need to re-awaken and re-position the Church and other Stakeholders to Transform Education in Acoli Sub-Region.

I am pleased that the Church has come out to re-awaken and re-position the Church and other Stakeholders to Transform Education in the Acoli Sub-Region. Each one of us should be committed to transforming education. Education is the most substantial thing in the life of a human being and we must try to take all the children to school anyone who loves education is the best.
