Politics should not drive the Country in the wrong direction, as seen in Uganda with the regime of the National Resistance Movement - NRM (NRM). We must be very careful with Politics, and we must be careful in how we exercise it. Politics should not even make others ignorant. That scene was nasty as Uganda Police and Uganda People Defense Forces (UPDF) soldiers beat up the Security Team of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential Candidate Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu as the Forces tried to block him from accessing Gulu City, Northern Uganda where he was scheduled to address a Campaign rally on Saturday, December 6th, 2025. "Beating up an Opposition Presidential Candidate’s Team, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, in Gulu City, Northern Uganda was not Proper." It was an act that undermines the Principles of Democracy, Respect, and Fair Political Competition. We are in the period of the Campaign, and it's not good to see some of these ugly scenes where the Police and Soldiers torment other Candidates who are trying to talk to the Voters and they need to take up Leadership of the Country.
In any Democratic Society, every Candidate - regardless of their political affiliation - deserves the Freedom to campaign peacefully and engage with Citizens without fear of violence. Using force against members of an Opposition Team not only injures individuals but also damages the credibility of the Electoral process, erodes public trust, and sends a message that intimidation is valued over Dialogue. A Stable Nation is built on Tolerance, Mature Political Engagement, and Equal Opportunity for all voices to be heard. Resorting to violence as NRM tries deepens division, stifles participation, and weakens the foundation of Good Governance. True leadership is shown through respect for differing opinions and a commitment to peaceful competition.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) may need to observe and learn the best way to conduct Politics in Uganda.
