Emmanuel Nigel's Commentary: One-Day Notice Is Not Enough: A Concern Over Movement Restrictions on the National Cleaning Day: Saturday, July 25th, 2026, that Places Burden on the Citizens.

Proper Planing and Communication are crucial. Everything to be done perfectly needs proper Planning and Communication. With Proper Planning and Communication, you will always be perfect. The Government of Uganda's decision to restrict movement from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM ahead of the National Cleaning Day on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, concerns and disturbs many Ugandan Citizens. While maintaining cleanliness and protecting Public Health are important National objectives, announcing such restrictions only one day in advance places unnecessary pressure on ordinary Ugandans. This announcement should have been made on Monday, July 20th, 2026, not today, just a few hours before the National Cleaning Day.
Many People in Uganda rely on daily travel to earn a living, access Healthcare, attend Family obligations, and conduct urgent Business. A one-day notice gives Individuals, Businesses, Schools, and Organizations very little time to adjust their plans. Such short notice can result in Confusion, Financial Losses, Missed Appointments, and Unnecessary Stress.
Good Governance requires timely, transparent, and predictable communication. Whenever movement restrictions are necessary, the Public should receive adequate notice to prepare accordingly. Providing sufficient advance notice demonstrates respect for Citizens, encourages cooperation, and allows people to comply without undue hardship.
National Cleaning Day is a commendable Initiative, but its success depends not only on Public participation but also on Effective Planning and Communication. Future Announcements should be made well in advance so that Ugandans can organize themselves, support the exercise, and avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
We need to learn the way of doing things like civilized people.
